History of the School of Music
The School of Music was founded back in 2011, with a strong emphasis on cultivating the musical talents of its students. An early adopter of the “school within a school” concept, it has since set the standard for specialised educational institutions. Prospective students with a passion for music have had the opportunity to audition for the school, drawing aspiring musicians from both the North and South Islands to its halls.
After graduating from Hagley College, many of our students historically pursued higher education at notable institutions in Christchurch and across New Zealand. Ara Music Arts and UC in Christchurch were popular choices for higher education. For those seeking opportunities in other cities, Auckland University and Victoria University were common destinations. Additionally, students inclined towards sound engineering historically chose to attend MAINZ. This historical pattern reflects the diverse academic and vocational pursuits of our graduates over the years.
